2022 Non-residential Construction Report Released

Chester County Planning Commission's Senior Housing and Economic Planner, Libby Horwitz, recently presented the results of the latest Non-residential Construction Report for Chester County.
The report concluded that in terms of new non-residential construction, Chester County saw an increase over the past two years, but a slight decrease in 2022 compared to the year prior. There were 31 non-residential projects completed in 2022 for a total of 963,413 square feet, with institutional and industrial uses leading the way.
Of these projects, Penn Township, Honey Brook Township, and East Caln Township saw the greatest amount of new non-residential square footage — with New Garden Township, West Goshen Township, and Upper Uwchlan Township leading in commercial; Honey Brook Township, East Caln Township, and Sadsbury Township leading in industrial; and Penn Township, Upper Uwchlan Township, and Phoenixville Borough leading in institutional square footage.
Penn Township's new Avon Grove High School was the largest project completed in 2022, with nearly 300,000 new institutional square feet added. Additionally, West Nantmeal Township was the only municipality with agricultural non-residential development in 2022.
